Sterling Business Park Executive Director Update
January 2010 - I was driving by Sterling Business Park with colleagues recently when one mentioned that it did not look like much was going on with the development of the park. I realized then how deceptive progress is when you don’t see big bulldozers moving dirt. Indeed, much is happening with the project, both construction-wise and in establishing the marketing, maintenance and future operations of the business park.

Our initial two construction contracts for Phase 1 infrastructure are almost complete. Linde Corporation is finishing the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and testing will occur when the weather warms in Spring. Their work is on the east side of the property near the Wallenpaupack Creek. The sewage system includes the WWTP, sewage collection lines and water re-use system. Effluent will be treated and non-potable water pumped to a 230,000 gallon holding tank at the high spot on the property. This is believed to be the largest water re-use project in the Commonwealth.

$3.2 MILLION GRANT WILL STRENGTHEN STOURBRIDGE RAILROAD
January 2010 - Wayne and Pike Counties received a huge boost with Gov. Rendell’s recent announcement of a $3.2 million grant from PennDOT’s Rail Freight Capital Budget /Transportation Assistance and Rail Freight Assistance Programs for the Stourbridge Railroad.

Over a three-year period, the Stourbridge Railroad will perform the first meaningful upgrade/rehabilitation of the 23-mile shortline in 40 years. This work will increase capacity for commercial use of the line as well as add the benefit of speed for passenger service. Railcar payload will increase to 100-ton, which is comparable to four truckloads. Following the upgrade, trains will be able to move along the track at 25-30 miles per hour, which means that the roundtrip to Lackawaxen will be approximately the same duration as the current trip to Hawley.
