Mary Beth Wood, Executive Director

 

Mary Beth began working with WEDCO in September 2001 and was appointed Executive Director in November 2006. She has brought over $3.1 million in grant funds to community, workforce, and economic development projects in Wayne County and over $8.5 million in public financing for job creation projects. She has worked to promote inter-agency and regional cooperation; successful projects include formation of the Central Wayne Regional Authority, the Wayne Pike Workforce Alliance and Wayne Tomorrow. While directing the 252-acre Sterling Business & Technology Park through its initial construction phase, she coordinated efforts of consultants, engineers, construction contractors, and permitting agencies, and administered $10 million in business park financing.

 

Mary Beth is the current Board Chair of Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA) Alliance, and is a Director of numerous regional organizations, including the Pennsylvania Economic Development Association, Penn’s Northeast, Inc., Pocono Counties Workforce Investment Board, and Wayne Pike Workforce Alliance. Her community involvement includes Honesdale Borough Planning Commission, Lacawac Sanctuary Board of Trustees, and Penn State Worthington Scranton Advisory Board.

 

Mary Beth earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Dickinson College, Carlisle. She is certified by the Pennsylvania Economic Development Association and is a member of the Northeastern Economic Developers Association.

 

 

Ellen Korb, Membership Services Coordinator

 

Ellen Korb joined WEDCO in 2008 as Membership Services Coordinator.   She manages membership records and relationships on behalf of the local economic development organization.   She also coordinates special events, handles all bookkeeping, and performs clerical and office management activities.

 

Prior to joining WEDCO she received her real estate sales license and was associated with Century 21 Select Realty Group.   She has previously held positions in the legal profession which were primarily as a legal assistant/paralegal to several attorneys in Wayne County.

Brian W. Smith, Chairman

 

Commissioner Smith is a graduate of Wayne Highlands School District. He continued his education at Penn State University, Worthington Scranton Campus, obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology and also served as President of the American Society of Certified Engineering Technicians.


Hired directly out of college, he worked for Newport News Shipping Building and Dry Dock Company in Virginia, doing electronic design on Nuclear Submarines. He moved back to Wayne County and worked at Wayne Memorial Hospital for seven years as a Bio-Med Technician. Since 1985, Commissioner Smith and his family have also operated a farm in Wayne County.

Jonathan A. Fritz

 

Commissioner Fritz is Wayne County born and raised, having attended Honesdale Catholic School and the Honesdale High School. Jonathan continued his education at Pennsylvania State University, achieving Dean’s List recognition while earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Since graduation, Jonathan has been a General Manager and Sales Manager for a local, long-established tractor and machinery dealership, as well; he served his community as Honesdale Borough Mayor for two terms.


Fritz is a member of St. John the Evangelist R.C. Parish and is a past or present member of the following groups and organizations: Pennsylvania State Association of Mayors, Honesdale Borough Planning Commission, Wayne County Parks & Recreation, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Greater Honesdale Partnership, Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, Wayne Economic Development Corporation, Pocono Lake Region Chamber of Commerce, Penn State Advisory Board – Worthington Campus, Penn State Wayne / Pike Alumni Association, Wayne County Drug & Alcohol Coalition, the Honesdale D.A.R.E. Program, Honesdale Lions, Honesdale Area Jaycees, Fraternal Order of Eagles-Arie 1858, the Honesdale Golf Club, Carley Brook Hunting & Country Club and the National Rifle Association.

Wendell R. Kay

 

Commissioner Kay has resided in Wayne County most of his life. He attended Honesdale Catholic School and graduated from Honesdale High. He received a B.A. in History from East Stroudsburg State and a law degree from Ohio Northern University. Since 1981, he has maintained a general legal practice in Northeast Pennsylvania. He previously served as a court appointed custody and divorce master and was a court appointed guardian for hundreds of children.
From 1987-91 Wendell served as a Honesdale Borough council member. He is a former township solicitor for Berlin, Damascus and Sterling townships and chaired the Honesdale Borough Civil Service Commission.


Commissioner Kay is a lector and former Finance Committee chair for St. John the Evangelist R.C. Parish. He is a member and former Board Chair of the Wayne County YMCA and belongs to the Wayne County Historical Society and Wayne –Pike Farm Bureau. He also serves on the statewide Human Services Committee for the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania (CCAP).


Board Assignments: Chair, Board of Elections; Chair, Assessment Appeals Board; Secretary, Wayne County Prison Board; Mental Health/Intellectual Disability/Early Intervention Board; Chair, Local Emergency Planning Committee.
