Keeping our businesses here and helping them grow – whether through direct service or improving county resources and infrastructure - is our most important work. The organizations below help by offering expertise in a number of areas, including business management and operations, exporting, government contracting, and marketing and sales. WEDCO administers the Commonwealth’s Business Retention and Expansion Program within Wayne County. This program is designed to have a local service provider, such as WEDCO visit a business and—using assessment tools and knowledge of economic development programs—match available resources with needs. Center for Entrepreneurial Assistance The lead agency in PA government for small business development. The CEA provides both information and advocacy for those starting and growing a business in Pennsylvania.
Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED) Official web site of DCED linking PA businesses, communities and individuals with on-line programs, initiatives and assistance.
Entrepreneurial Network Initiative Web-based business tool that puts the small business owner in touch with seasoned professionals. The ENI is administered regionally by the staff at NEPA Alliance. It's premise is to match service providers with specific business challenges so those who have been there can give a helping hand.
International Trade Development Program Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance program that helps businesses implement an exporting plan and take advantage of available exporting resources, such as the Team Pennsylvania Export Network.
Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance (NEPA ALLIANCE) One of seven sub-state regional agencies that coordinate economic development in the Commonwealth. NEPA ‘s services fall under the heading of business, community, and government, and provide multiple programs and statistical information crucial for business and community planning and development.
Northeast PA Industrial Resource Center (NEIRC) Financial and technical assistance for manufacturers to improve quality, productivity, and adaptation of modern manufacturing technologies.
PA Business Retention and Expansion Program State-wide business retention strategy that brings economic development professionals and businesses together to identify needs and provide solutions. Typically, WEDCO calls on 40 businesses annually within Wayne County. PA PowerPort State web site for those living, visiting and working in PA. Includes links to state agencies and government services.
PA Sourcenet Web-based tool that matches PA buyers and sellers. Provides sellers with sales leads and international trade leads. No cost to enroll.
Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program (PENNTAP) Solution for small firms with limited in-house expertise. Provides limited amount of technical assistance to surmount specific technical challenges at no cost to PA firms.
Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) PTAC provides market and technical assistance to qualified, competitive companies wishing to bid on government contracts. Helps companies obtain certifications, e.g., Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE), that are available to increase the competitiveness of the small business.
U. of S. Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Provides technical assistance and consulting services ranging from business plan development to current business operations. The University of Scranton SBDC has an outreach office at Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, 303 Commercial Street, Honesdale, PA.
